Hold their story in your hands.

Story Stones™ are handcrafted memorial stones made to travel with you — so their story continues in your everyday moments, not confined to a shelf or a cemetery plot.

Continue their story.
  • What is a Story Stone?

The Mission

Story Stones™ were created with access in mind. The funeral industry has become overwhelming — emotionally and financially — and too many families are left with only two extremes: spend more than they can afford, or leave remains in a temporary bag on a shelf because there’s no clear path to something permanent and meaningful. Story Stones™ offer another way: a respectful, enduring memorial designed for real life.

A note about carrying them forward.

Grief doesn’t stay in one place. It follows you into offices, into grocery stores, into quiet evenings and long drives. It shows up without asking permission. Story Stones™ were created for that reality — a memorial you can carry, not just store.

Each Story Stones™ set is built uniquely for the family it belongs to. No two are identical, because no two stories are identical. The stones become a way to keep someone close in the moments you actually need them — not only in the moments you can schedule.

On the days that feel heavier, you can slip one into your pocket and carry them close. When you return to a place they loved, you can bring them with you — not as memory alone, but as presence. A set can be divided among siblings, the same story traveling in different directions while staying shared. One day it rests on a desk. The next, it rests in your hand. These pieces are meant to move with you, not remain fixed in one place.

How Story Stones™ Comes Together

A simple process designed to guide you from selecting your set to receiving your completed stones.

  • Select a Set

Begin by selecting the set that fits how you wish to carry the story — Chapter, Volume, or Story Set. Each set offers a different way to keep or share the stones.

  • Choose Tone + Symbol

Select a ceremonial tone to guide the presentation of your set. You may also choose to include a symbol engraved on each stone, along with the date of birth and date of passing.

  • Place Your Order

Place your order to begin the process. Once confirmed, our studio will contact you with instructions for safely shipping the materials needed to create your stones.

  • Studio Creation

Each set is individually created in the studio. When complete, your Story Stones™ set is ceremonially packaged and returned to you.

Ceremonial Tones

The tone you select shapes the visual language of your Story Stones set — from packaging to printed materials and presentation.

Ceremonial tones are arranged into three families: Earth Tones, Heritage Tones, and Life Tones. Each family carries a distinct atmosphere — grounded, classic, or expressive.

You will select one color within a tone family to guide the presentation of your set.

Ceremonial Symbols

Symbols have long been used to mark remembrance, belief, and identity. For those who wish to include one, Story Stones™ offers a small collection of ceremonial symbols that can be engraved alongside the name and dates on each stone.

Our standard collection includes symbols commonly associated with three major traditions — Christianity, Judaism, and Islam — along with a few neutral forms used across spiritual and cultural practices. These options are offered simply as a starting point for families who wish to include a familiar mark of meaning.

Families may also request a custom symbol to reflect a personal belief, cultural tradition, or meaningful emblem. Short religious references — such as book, chapter, and verse — may also be included when space allows. Custom symbols are reviewed individually and approved at the discretion of the studio.

To maintain the respectful nature of Story Stones™, political symbols, hate imagery, or offensive markings will not be approved. If preferred, stones may also be created without any symbol engraving, allowing the form and story to stand on their own.

Shared Stories

Reflections from families who have welcomed Story Stones into their lives.

  • I was nervous ordering something like this, but when the stones arrived it honestly stopped me in my tracks. They feel solid and real in your hand. I keep one on my desk and my sister carries one in her purse. It’s a small thing, but somehow it makes them feel closer.5/5 Rachel M.
  • We divided the set between our family after my father passed. One went to my mom, one to each of us kids, and the mantle stone now sits on my mother’s nightstand. It’s comforting knowing we’re all carrying a piece of the same memory.5/5 David L.
  • With the way funeral expenses are these days, we wanted something meaningful our family could actually keep close. I didn’t want something that would just sit in a cemetery or get packed away in a box. I bring one of the stones with me when I visit the lake my husband loved. It’s simple, but it truly means a lot.5/5 Janet C.
  • From the moment we opened the box, you could tell this was designed with care. The way everything was presented felt almost ceremonial. Nothing about it felt commercial or rushed. It felt like someone understood what families are going through.5/5 Michael S.
